After lunch on Thursday the water level at the mission rose very rapidly as the water ran down from the mountains and the nearby empty river bed filled to a raging torrent. Fortunately somewhere in storage was 1000 bags to fill with sand for such an emercency.
Sandbags were needed in front of each one of the Casa's (childrens homes), the school and the office.
My hubby Nathanael at work in the backhoe trying to get the water moving. The cement speed bumps on the dirt road running through the mission was slowing the water down as it ran from the mountains to the ocean. He shoved those out of the way and the water level on the mission grounds started to recede.
The leaky staff housing. At least they are up off the ground. They look like they might turn into house boats and float away.
